Brace yourself this July. The inaugural Exeter Fringe Festival is ready to rock the month with more than 100 performances at Barnfield Theatre and Exeter Phoenix in a span of 10 days from July 26 to August 4. Six Performance spaces are set, including family theatre, fringe theatre, music and dance theatre, comedy theatre, and more. Elaine Faulkner and Alex Jackson are the organizers of the said event.
Festival Director Elaine Faulkner from Exeter went through solid training at Exeter College & Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. She has experience working in and outside of the country before she returned to her hometown to work for a local firm called Theatre Alibi. Now, she’s the co-director of Stage Technical Services. On the other hand, Alex Jackson is a London-based Theatre Director from Honiton. He trained at the King’s Head Theater in London and has made many programmes reach successful completion. The organizers are planning to make this a yearly event should everything go well this year.
Some of the headline acts include a touching folk double act, magician James Phelan, Sleeping Trees with their new show Silly Funny Boys. The most-awaited event also highlights both new and experienced comedians and more.
Other performances in the festival include a whole new show featuring space flight in Cornwall, storytelling performances which combine panto in a fun song and dance presentation, teeming with meaningful stories about staying true to yourself while loving whoever your heart chooses. You can also experience a virtual reality event, taking you to exciting destinations and performances mainly by Exeter-based artists, students, companies, and youth theatres. You can even engage in a late-night cabaret plus a musical comedy and a play arranged by locals in just a day.
The audience can also expect to witness new pieces and get a glimpse of new creations even before they’re launched.
Children and students can get special discounts for this exciting event. And if you decide to book at least 3 shows, you can get 20% discounts on ticket prices.
