Covid tier 2 restrictions, what that means to Somerset regions

The Government confirmed this Thursday morning that all except for one of the Somerset regions shall be placed under Tier 2 of the Covid-19 restrictions.

Somerset regions under Tier 2 are Mendip, Sedgemoor, Somerset West, South Somerset, and Taunton. This means that these areas have “a higher or rapid increase of infections”. Meanwhile, North Somerset is under Tier 3.

The tier will be reviewed every 2 weeks, which will start on December 16.

Here are the following restrictions under Tier 2 which will start on December 2:

  • Socialising is not allowed with any person that you don’t live with.
  • Always follow the rule of 6, which means only less than 6 individuals should gather together in a public area.
  • Nightclubs and pubs will remain close, unless they serve substantial meals.
  • Hospitality venues that serve food and drink can stay open until 11pm. Cut off of orders is at 10pm. Those who have take-away service can continue after 10pm via delivery service, pick-up, or drive-through.
  • Entertainment establishments such as casinos, bingo halls, museums, theme parks, bowling alleys, funfairs, and adventure parks should close at 11pm. Theatres, Cinemas, and concert halls can stay longer than 11pm in order to end performances or shows that start before 10pm.
  • Only 50% capacity of public attendance in indoor and outdoor events such as performances, shows, business events, and spectator sport events is allowed.
  • Places of worship will remain open but remember not to socialise with anyone you don’t live with, especially during indoor events.
  • Number of people allowed to attend in the following events: weddings and receptions (15 people), funeral ceremonies (30 people), commemorative events (15 people).
  • Exercise classes and organised outdoor sports can resume. The indoor activities can continue as long as it follows the Covid-19 guidelines (e.g. social distancing, sanitizing, etc.)
  • Travelling is allowed but highly discouraged. Avoid overnight stays at tier 3 areas unless it’s important.

  1. Nightclubs and pubs will remain close, unless they serve substantial meals.

Does this mean that if you want to visit your local you have to buy a substantial meal each time you visit?
