Plymouth Market is the backbone of the city’s independent commercial area and listed as a Grade II building which was opened way back September 7, 1959.
As a part of its coming 60th anniversary, the West End Carnival will be back at the city center knowing that it was a huge success in the previous year. This year’s event is happening on Saturday, August 31 and vows to be much grander. Here, the event would be much more loaded with entertainment from street performers to family-friendly programmes and live music. Visitors can also take this chance to discover local stores in the West End which will be offering a range of great deals the entire day. This will be a great opportunity for tourists to take part in the event and to stroll around the area to buy stuff, from local items to international things.
Many bands will be performing like the Joey The Lips and will be highlighted by the tribute act for the Beatles, which will be hosted by Radio Plymouth. Aside from the live music, guests will be also entertained by a wide variety of street performers such as fire breathers, juggling unicyclists, and production numbers from Plymouth Morris Dancers and Street Factory.
All will perform just outside of Plymouth Market along Cornwall Street. There are also two Samba carnival parades. One of them is Mi Salsa Cubana, which will definitely bring out the crowd’s carnival spirit. Apart from this, children can attend the carnival craft activities, classic cars, and cooking exhibits.
Famous entertainer, Billy Wiz Magician, and face painters are also there to give entertainment to children. Jacques Marchal, the Plymouth foodies’ favourite, will head the cooking demos and tastings at the market. There is a gin bar too, intended for adults. Lucky customers can win a specially designed canvas bag from Plymouth Market as well.
