After a 64-run cricket win against Surrey with the century registered by Billy Root at Cardiff last Sunday, Glamorgan is tipped to face Gloucestershire in the next group match slated in April 30, Tuesday in Bristol. The derby match between the two teams, which is scheduled at 11:00 AM, is one of the featured encounters at the Royal London One – Day Cup. Gloucestershire is fresh from a four – wicket victory after routing Somerset, inching closer to the team target of reaching the knockout stage of the tournament. The latest victory of Gloucestershire put them in at fourth in the ranking heading towards their match against Glamorgan that is currently ranked seventh.
Coached by Richard Dawson, Gloucestershire banks on the leadership of their team captain, Chris Dent while Glamorgan relies on the strategies of coach Matthew Maynard and the leadership of their team captain, Chris Cooke. Gloucestershire won three of its five opening games while Glamorgan had yet to register a win in the win – loss column prior to their latest win against Surrey.
The game this Tuesday adds to the increasing encounters between the two teams with the first one dating more than five years ago. Previous results indicated head-to-head and even matches. Last year’s encounter between the two teams at Sophia Gardens saw Gloucestershire romping away with an eight – wicket victory behind the heroics of Chris Liddle who had four wickets. However, Glamorgan won the head to head List A cricket matches in 2016 and 2017. The 2016 win against Gloucestershire, which was the reigning Cup holder then, was bannered by the trio of Will Bragg, Graham Wagg, and Timm van der Gugten. However, in 2013, Gloucestershire showed mastery of the Glamorgan when it sealed two victories in List A matches although those victories were won by slim margins.
