Mansfield Town has completed the transfer of Torquay United’s striker, Jamie Reid. The sharpshooter signed a two-year contract with the club.
The 25-year old decided to transfer from the National League side after he rejected the offer given by the club. Torquay United had offered him new contract terms to woo him to stay behind, but he rejected the terms of the new contract.
Jamie joined the Gulls on loan from Exeter City in 2018. He played 32 league games last season and scored 18 goals. He scored a total of 63 goals in all the 176 appearances he made for the Gulls. The manager counted him as a valuable asset for the team as he was a talented sharpshooter.
While he was at Exeter City, he struggled to get regular playtime because there were several experienced strikers. However, his skills were sharpened when he transferred to Plainmoor. At Plainmoor, he secured regular playtime after he was placed in the first team.
Mansfield manager, Graham Coughlan, welcomed the talented striker to the club and termed him as a reliable goalscorer. The Stags boss further noted that Reid has excellent mobility making him an exciting prospect. The manager promised the fans that they will like Jamie’s skill in the field.
On his part, Jamie said that several clubs had approached him for a deal, but he decided to go to Mansfield Town. He said that the club has big ambitions and a brilliant set-up. He, therefore, saw this as an opportunity to grow and perfect his skills under the leadership of Mr Graham.
While confirming the transfer, Torquay United’s boss, Gary Johnson, thanked the striker and wished him well in his new club. Mr Johnson added that the player has great potential, and his future in football is bright.
