An analysis of MP’s expenditure from the Independent Parliamentary Standard Authority shows North Cornwall MP Scott Mann made the most claims on expenses in 2018, followed by South East Cornwall MP Sheryll Murray.

The analysis shows Scott Mann is the most expensive MP in the County after making over £23,000 claim on expenses in 2018. A staggering £7,106 was spent on accommodation for the MP, making it his largest category of expenses.

According to MP Mann, “The period of Jan-June 18 crosses over two financial accounting years for IPSA which start in April. There will be fluctuations in spending throughout the year, for example when staff change/crossover or if quarterly/annual bills land at the same time. Analyses of one full financial reporting period will give a better reflection of cost.”

MP Sheryll Muray who made £22,090 claim on expenditure over the same period is the second most expensive MP in the county. The South East Cornwall MP spent a total of £8,250 on accommodation, £2,425 on staff and £1,837 on office business rates.

St Ives MP Derek Thomas claimed £14,779, while the MP for St Austell and Newquay, Steve Double, claimed £21,450 on expenses.

MP Sarah Newton claimed £11,932, followed by George Eustice, the least expensive MP in the county, who claimed about £9,000. The conservative MPs claimed a total of £91,784.

On average, £16,964 has been claimed per MP this year. This shows a total of £11 million in claims made by all MPs since January.
