Firm to be Shortlisted for £55m Student Accommodation Scheme Deal in Cornwall

Four firms will be shortlisted for the recently approved £55m student accommodation scheme in Cornwall, in November.

The four contractors will bid for the 528-bed deal, and the winner will be announced in January. The contractors should have a “demonstrable track record within the sector”.

The building was designed by Stride Treglown and the master plan developed by Studytel. Studytel is working with the facilities management firm, Sodexo, on the project.

Last year, Cornwall Council told Studytel and John Lewis Partnership Pension Trust to join forces to create a master plan, when they both sought pre-application advice for separate schemes of about 1,000 student rooms.

The building will be the first of three phases to be put up on one of Penryn’s industrial estates, with pathways to link it directly to Falmouth University’s main campus.

It will contain a mix of self-contained studios and apartments with additional shared kitchen and communal areas.

It is projected to accommodate 1,000 to 1,500 students, catering for the Penryn campus need.

Studytel plans to complete the building before the 2020 academic year begins.
