Babar Azam of Pakistan Now Part of Somerset County Cricket Club Team for T20 Tournament

Pakistan’s 24-year old Babar Azam who plays as a batsman was signed by Somerset County Club for the forthcoming Vitality Blast that will be held on the 18th of July this year. The duration of Babar’s stay will comprise of the whole 14 group stage matches of Somerset and potentially until the quarter-finals of the tournament if qualifications are met.

Mohammed Babar Azam is a cricket player from Pakistan who plays in three different formats. ICC ranks him today as the 7th best batsman among a hundred others under the ICC. He was also the captain of Pakistan’s U19 cricket team during the ICC U-19 World Cup of 2012.

It is to Somerset’s happiness that they have signed Babar Azam to the team, and from the words of Somerset’s director of cricket Andy Hurry, “To be able to sign a player of the caliber of Babar Azam is tremendously exciting.”

It is also known that Babar Azam is the number 1 batsman of T20I, and he is the record holder of the fastest batsman to score 1,000 runs in just 26 periods surpassing Virat Kohli’s record achieved within 27 innings.

The happiness of the right-hander cannot also be denied as he said that he was looking forward to the new challenge that playing T20 cricket in England will bring. He also hopes that he can give Somerset something to cheer about.

Somerset also hopes that Azam’s obligations to Pakistan during the international games will let him play until the finals. Pakistan will be facing the West Indies for the World Cup on the 31st of May this year.

It was only last 2016 that Babar had his T20I debut and that year did not disappoint the cricket fans as he finished sixth-leading scorer. He averaged 53.12 with a 127.78 strike rate, accumulating from 29 matches 1,182 runs.

Thursday, July 18, 2019 will be the exact date for the T20 blast, and it is only then that Babar Azam’s inclusion to Somerset’s team will be proved an exceptional opportunity for the team. Will he be able to perform just like 2016’s T20I or will he set a better record?
