Affordable housing development plan in south Bristol has been approved


A green light was given for plans in building a new housing estate behind a road in south Bristol area. The buildings in Winterstoke Road, Bedminster, behind the Redpoint climbing centre, was taken down and replaced by eight terraced houses and 59 flats in which all of them would be an affordable option for housing.

The site consists of two former buildings which are the existing Winterstoke Garage site and the yards of the Kellaway Building Suppliers.

The development consists of two-bed flats above three separate blocks and a mix of 59 one.

The site’s tallest building is the Lynwood Building at five storeys high with 31 two-bedroom flats and 12 bedroom flats.

The Winterstoke building has a two-bedroom flat on each of its three floors while the Luckwell Building which is a four-storey high had 8 two-bed flats and 5-bed flats.

The development will focus on a public open space around the little triangular area which will include a “doorstep” play area for children.

Along the site’s Luckwell Roadside, the eight terraced homes will be built.

Despite worries about the “right of access” disagreement with the Winterstoke Centre that lies in the north-eastern side of the site, councilors unanimously approved the plans during a planning meeting at the City Hall last night.

Presently, the Winterstoke Centre is accessible at the end of Lynwood Road using the L-shaped loading dock.

Tenants who are using the Winterstoke Centre to unload and load vehicles can use this route at all times.
