Exeter’s post office centre to close

The main post office in Exeter, in Princesshay Shopping Centre, will close. It is part of a major new agreement between the post office and WHSmith to improve growth and ensure added customer service delivery nationwide. The city post office will move into WHSmith off Queen’s Street.

Post offices across the country in a smart move have leveraged on this opportunity of strategic high street locations by joining forces with WHSmith, which currently runs a network of 135 post offices and by 2019 there is a proposed estimate of 175 outlets. In addition, WHSmith will move to a franchise agreement, of 33 post offices sited in stores but currently operated directly by the post office.

Benefits of this arrangement

Improved service hours: WHSmith outlets will have additional working hours for customers. This will mean customers have more access time to carry out their business. Service will also be available on Sundays.

Roger Gale, Post Office Network and Sales Director, said: ‘’opening hours for customers have been increased by more than 200,000 per week.’’

Growth improvement: The business is thriving with an expansion plan and projected growth indices. Roger Gale said: ‘’It is advantageous to still widen this successful and sustainable Post Office business service. For over ten years now this relationship has been successful between WHSmith and Post Office.’’
