Exeter Pubs Flushed with Success

Four Wetherspoon pubs in Exeter – George’s Meeting House in South Street, The Imperial in New North Road, The Chevalier Inn in Fore Street and The Sawyer’s Arms in Cowick Street have won acclaim for maintaining high quality and standard pubs in the Loo of the Year Awards 2018. Each of the four pubs has received a platinum rating by the inspectors – the highest individual award the assessment team can offer.

According to the judges, the award seeks to highlight and improve the standards of ‘away from home’ toilet provision and services in the UK.

The Loo of the Year Awards inspectors do make unscheduled calls on thousands of pubs as part of their assessment procedures to determine which of the pub’s services accord with the UK approved standards. The inspectors rank the toilets from bronze to platinum, leaving out lower quality toilets from the grade.

Only outlets with exceptional toilets are awarded the platinum rating by the assessment team.

There are several factors influencing the choice of awards – cleanliness, décor and maintenance, accessibility, hand washing and drying equipment including overall management form part of the consideration.

“We are delighted with the award.  Staff at the pub ensure the toilets are in first-class condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by inspectors.” The Imperial manager, Emma Gibson said.

According to Mike Bone, The Loo of the Year Awards 2018 managing director, “The toilets at the four pubs have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well maintained.

“The pubs richly deserve their platinum awards – the highest individual award the judges can deliver.”
