Honeybourne Way in Cheltenham will be up for some changes, courtesy of Waitrose Supermarket. In fact, shoppers are already being directed to detours within the premises as parts of the building are being blocked off and boarded up as renovation works are kicked into high gear.
Even as the store was operational, works were already being done in sections with a planned time frame of 12 weeks to complete. At the end of summer, Waitrose will be closed for a week for final renovation works and touches.
The scheduled shutdown will take place on Saturday, August 31 until Friday, September 6, 2019. Its usual opening time shall be retained at 8 AM. Waitrose wishes to inform customers that throughout the closure, the pharmacy Click and Collect service will still remain open.
Customers can look forward to seven changes that are expected to continue Waitrose’s hold as the choice destination for fresh produce, groceries, baked goods, and other everyday essentials. These are:
- Updated delicatessen section for lovers of gourmet cheese and deli cuts
- Bakery with a self-serve counter
- More space for spirits, beer, and wine
- Artisan sushi section
- Better meat and fish counters
- Choice cuts offered by a dry-aged beef counter
- A new café featuring outdoor seating for alfresco dining
- Self-serve checkouts
Other changes include revamped toilets and re-designation of supermarket sections like having the fruit and vegetable section out at the front, for example.
Company executives revealed the store’s improvement plans way back in May, saying that the changes are “exciting.” They are confident that these improvements will contribute to a better overall experience for shoppers.
In the meantime, loyal customers of Waitrose Cheltenham will have to contend with traveling to other branches of the chain to shop for groceries and exclusive in-house brand items.
For those inconvenienced by the farther trips, the Waitrose team suggests to stock up before the branch closes, promising that the situation is temporary and customers can look forward to a better one soon.
